DO I NEED AN EPC?

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is needed when a property is Sold, Let or Built.

Before a property is placed onto the market you must commission an EPC.

The EPC will be displayed on your property particulars for potential buyers and tenants to view information about a property’s energy use and typical energy costs. A graph will display an energy efficiency rating from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). The EPC certificate will also provide recommendations about how to reduce energy and save money.

An EPC lasts for 10 years, so if you are thinking of Selling or Letting your property, check the EPC Register here using your postcode before ordering and paying for a new one.

How to get an EPC?

Your Estate or Letting Agent can order an EPC for you as they will have their preferred Energy assessor. Alternatively, you can find an accredited assessor using the EPC Register.

You can be fined if you don’t get an EPC for your property, therefore ensure you or your agent commissions one before marketing begins.

Until next time

Thomas
